We collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string, to aid spam detection.

The Gravatar service may be given an anonymized string created from your email address (also known as a hash) to see if you are using it. The privacy policy for the Gravatar service can be found here: Your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment after it has been approved.

Avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) if you’re uploading images to the website. Any location data from images on the website can be downloaded and extracted by website visitors.

You can choose to save your name, email address, and website in cookies if you leave a comment on our site. These are for your convenience so you don’t have to enter your information again when you leave another comment. This batch of cookies will last for a year.

We will set a temporary cookie if you visit our login page to see if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal information and is deleted when your browser is closed.

We’ll set up several cookies when you log in to save your login information and screen display preferences. Cookies for login and screen options last for two days and a year, respectively. Your login will be saved for two weeks if you choose “Remember Me.” The login cookies will be deleted if you log out of your account.

An additional cookie will be saved in your browser if you edit or publish an article. This cookie contains no personal information and only shows the post ID of the article you just edited. It has a one-day expiration date.

Content from other websites that has been embedded

This site’s articles may contain embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if the visitor had actually visited the other website.

These websites may collect information about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and track your interactions with embedded content, including tracking your interactions with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

To whom do we share your information?

If you request a password reset, the reset email will include your IP address.

How long do we keep your information?

If you leave a comment, both the comment and the metadata associated with it are saved indefinitely. This is so that any subsequent comments will be recognised and approved automatically rather than being held in a moderation queue.

We also store the personal information that users provide in their user profiles if they register on our website (if any). At any time, any user can view, edit, or delete their personal information (except they cannot change their username). The information can also be viewed and edited by website administrators.

What rights do you have over your personal information?

You can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us, if you have an account on this site or have left comments. You can also ask us to delete any personal information we have about you. This excludes any information that we are required to keep for administrative, legal, or security reasons.

Where do we send your information?

An automated spam detection service may be used to check visitor comments.
